Wheel Tax Late Fee

In 2010, an ordinance, adopted by the City of Omaha allowed for $25 late fee assessed on all motor vehicle wheel tax payments made more than five calendar days after the renewal due date.

 

Save time:  renew online; mail your payment; renew by phone; or use the office drop box (located at each branch location).  If renewing in person call first to arrange the availability of your message, specialty, or handicap plate at the office of your choice by calling 402-444-7103.

**Handicap license plates must be recertified before your renewal can be processed.  You will be sent a recertification form and instructions 3 months prior.

NOTICES


The Treasurer's Office is charged with the collection of taxes.  The Assessor/Register of Deeds Office assesses property and assigns a valuation to be used to determine taxes to be owed.  Property owners wishing to begin the process of protesting their property valuation should go to www.boardofequalization.org. Questions about the process can be answered by emailing the Clerk's Office at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or their website www.douglascountyclerk.org. The Treasurer's Office website will be updated for early online tax payments each year by December 1st.  Tax statements will be mailed Mid-December.  If you choose to use the mail, please wait for the statement to attach the coupon to your payment and mail them both in the envelope provided to assure proper posting and faster processing.

Credit/Debit cards are now being accepted over the counter in all of our customer service locations. We accept the following credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. See attached for the fee that is associated with using a credit/debit card. No part of the credit/debit card fee goes to Douglas County or the Treasurer's Office.

Receipts: Your canceled check serves as a receipt of payment. You may also view and print your payment history on our web via the Real Property Tax Search page.

On-Line Property Tax Payments: It could take a minimum of 4 business days to update the record on the Real Property Tax Look-Up page, even though it is considered as paid, the moment the online payment is completed.
